'Terrifier 2' Sees 84 Percent Box Office Jump Following Reports of Vomiting, Fainting Moviegoers

The indie horror is a two-hour all-out gore fest

Terrifier 2 — the bloody sequel to the 2016 Art the Clown-led B-horror — has seen a significant jump in viewership in recent days as reports have surfaced about moviegoers throwing up, passing out and ambulances arriving at the scene at theatres across the US.

Bloody Disgusting — which co-helmed the indie flick alongside Cinedigm and SCREAMBOX — reports that the slasher saw an 84 percent bump in viewership over the weekend, catapulting itself into the box office top 10 after it was only meant to show for one weekend starting back on October 6.

At first only available in American theatres, the film made its way to Canadian cinemas on October 21, meaning you can catch the gore-fest in a town near you for a limited time. No word yet on whether participating theatres north of the border will be handing out Art the Clown-themed barf bags.

The two-hour gross-out has earned its reputation in spades — even getting a nod from Stephen King — but writer-director Damien Leone is slightly concerned that all the hype may lead audiences to a film they might not be able to handle. "Listen, I would have loved to have a couple of walk-outs, I think that's sort of a badge of honour because it is an intense movie," Leone told Entertainment Weekly.

He continued: "I don't want people fainting, getting hurt during the movie. But it's surreal. Here's the thing, it's called Terrifier 2, you should probably see Terrifier 1 before you jump into this one."

With all its barf-soaked success, Leone is optimistic about the future of the franchise. "Not to give away spoilers, but we really have a nice twisted cliffhanger at the end of Part 2," the filmmaker added. "There's a lot more to explore with Art the Clown for sure."
