Beloved New Zealand director Taika Waititi is getting his own Star Wars movie.
Today it was announced that the Oscar-winning Jojo Rabbit filmmaker will direct and co-write a new film in the Star Wars universe, and it will be treated to proper theatrical release. Lending a hand will be Krysty Wilson-Cairns, who will co-write the film alongside the director.
This isn't the first time Waititi has entered the Star Wars universe. Recently, he both appeared in and directed the finale of Disney+'s The Mandalorian.
So far, there is no release date for Waititi's Star Wars film, but stay tuned as more details become available.
In addition to the Star Wars film, Waititi is currently working on the soccer movie Next Goal Wins, as well as his next Thor movie Thor: Love and Thunder, which is due out on November 5, 2021.
