With the Academy Awards set to take place this weekend, the last few months have seen a deluge of self-serious films hitting theatres. Late Night host Seth Meyers has taken it upon himself to skewer prestige cinema with a new short called Oscar Bait.
The faux film trailer has all the markings of an awards-season shoo-in, including homoerotic subtext, racial tension, rare diseases, unspeakable tragedies and so much crying. There are also plenty of gimmicky film tricks.
The sketch runs a little long, but then again so do most Oscar bait movies. Check it out below, and see if it gets any traction when the Academy Awards are handed out this weekend.
