Real Tom Hanks Accuses Insurance Company of Using AI Tom Hanks in Ad Without Consent

"There's a video out there promoting some dental plan with an AI version of me. I have nothing to do with it."

Nepo baby apologist (and proud father to Chet) Tom Hanks has warned fans that there's an advertisement going around featuring an AI-generated version of him that he did not consent to.

The actor took to Instagram last night (October 1) to tell the public to "BEWARE!!" of his likeness in a commercial for an unnamed insurance company's dental plan.

"There's a video out there promoting some dental plan with an AI version of me," Hanks wrote atop a presumed screenshot from the advert, which definitely looks like an AI rendering and not actually him. "I have nothing to do with it."

Of course, we can't go a single day without AI discourse — and this is a particularly pertinent topic in terms of the SAG-AFTRA strike. The Hollywood writers strike finally ended last week, but actors are still campaigning for a deal that considers the use of voice and image as AI technology becomes increasingly interwoven into making film and TV.

The real Tom Hanks most recently appeared in the latest from Wes Anderson, this year's Asteroid City.
