Pablo Larraín's forthcoming film Spencer will see Kristen Stewart step into the role of Princess Diana, and it's now been announced that Radiohead's Jonny Greenwood will write the project's original score.
Greenwood's latest will follow a pair of film scores he wrote for Phantom Thread and You Were Never Really Here, both of which arrived in 2018. Greenwood's foray into film scores led him to launch modern classical label Octatonic Records the following year.
Marking the start of Spencer's production, NEON has also shared a first look at Stewart in her starring role, which you can find below.
"Kristen is one of the great actors around today," Larraín told Deadline last year. "To do this well, you need something very important in film, which is mystery. Kristen can be many things, and she can be very mysterious and very fragile an ultimately very strong as well, which is what we need. The combination of those elements made me think of her. The way she responded to the script and how she is approaching the character, it's very beautiful to see. I think she's going to do something stunning and intriguing at the same time. She is this force of nature."
Spencer's synopsis reads, "December, 1991: The Prince and Princess of Wales' marriage has long since grown cold. Though rumours of affairs and a divorce abound, peace is ordained for the Christmas festivities at Sandringham Estate. There's eating and drinking, shooting and hunting. Diana knows the game. This year, things will be a whole lot different."
While a concrete release date for Spencer has yet to be set, NEON are said to be angling for an arrival in the fall of 2021.
