Surprising no one, Quentin Tarantino is the latest to hop on the non-fungible token bandwagon. The filmmaker has put seven uncut, never-before-seen scenes from his 1994 classic Pulp Fiction up for auction as "Secret NFTs."
The NFTs were built on Secret Network — the first blockchain to offer data privacy by default, using applications that are permission-less and privacy-preserving — and will be sold via OpenSea, the world's largest NFT marketplace.
"I'm excited to be presenting these exclusive scenes from Pulp Fiction to fans," Tarantino said in a statement. "Secret Network and Secret NFTs provide a whole new world of connecting fans and artists and I'm thrilled to be a part of that."
According to a press release [via IndieWire], the crypto content is one-of-a-kind and has never been seen or heard before, including the first handwritten scripts of the film alongside custom commentary from Tarantino. Translation: Pulp secrets galore from the director himself.
Even the NFTs' public metadata (the secret content front-facing cover, essentially) is also a rarity: a distinctive, previously unseen work of art. Meanwhile, the collection itself is reportedly the most unique use-case for NFTs ever made; again, because secrets.
The Tarantino NFT collection will be up for auction sometime this month.
Pulp Fiction — the filmmaker's seminal sophomore effort — is widely considered as among his best work. It starred Uma Thurman, Samuel L. Jackson and John Travolta.
Tarantino was recently roasted by Succession actor Brian Cox — as well as his mom.
