A few early details have emerged about Paul Thomas Anderson's follow-up to 2017's Phantom Thread. His yet-to-be-titled ninth feature will be set at a high school in the San Fernando Valley in the 1970s.

The film will focus on a high school student who is also a successful child actor. Casting is still in early stages, though the film is expected to feature an ensemble cast with multiple storylines beyond the main character's.

Anderson will write, direct and produce the film, which was recently unveiled as one of the 13 projects shooting in California next year that will receive tax credits from the state, Deadline reports.

It marks the director's fourth film set in the San Fernando Valley in California, following Boogie Nights, Magnolia and Punch-Drunk Love. Anderson himself grew up in the area.

The upcoming Anderson project is slated to begin production in February 2020. Stay tuned for more details on the film as they emerge.

In recent years, Anderson has switched to music-adjacent projects, filming visuals for the likes of Thom Yorke and HAIM.
