Ontario has been rapidly lifting COVID-19 restrictions, and that process will continue this spring with the removal of mask mandates in most indoor settings.

The change will happen on March 21, and it will impact the bulk of indoor spaces (like event facilities, restaurants, gyms, schools and more). There will be a few exceptions for high-risk settings like public transit, hospital, jails, long-term care homes and more.

Ontario then plans to remove all pandemic restrictions by April 27. Yes, all pandemic restrictions.

The province still recommends mask-wearing, but it will no longer be required. Ontario's Chief Medical Officer Dr. Kieran Moore said in a statement, "Removing the mask mandate does not mean the risk is gone. COVID-19 is still transmitting, and masks can protect you and others around you becoming infected." This is part of a strategy to "live with and manage COVID-19."

This is, of course, big news for the entertainment industry, as concerts and movie theatres will be able to operate without any mandatory COVID-19 restrictions. Some venues have continued to require vaccines passports, even following the removal of vaccine mandates.
