With the TV and film worlds still reeling from the loss of Friends actor Matthew Perry, the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner has now offered insight into his cause of death.
According to the autopsy report [via Associated Press], Perry died "from the acute effects of the anesthetic ketamine," in addition to the secondary factor of drowning in the heated end of his pool. Contributing factors included coronary artery disease as well as buprenorphine, which is used to treat opioid use disorder.
The 54-year-old died on October 28, and his autopsy was performed the next day. He had reportedly been clean for 19 months leading up to his death, which was deemed an accident.
Since his passing, fellow actors Hank Azaria, Michael J. Fox, Zac Efron, the cast of Friends and more have paid tribute.
The Matthew Perry Foundation was later established to honour the late actor's legacy by aiming to help individuals struggling with addiction.
