John Boyega Signs On for 'Pacific Rim' Sequel

BY Josiah HughesPublished Jun 6, 2016

It's been a rocky road for fans of the original Pacific Rim who can't wait for a sequel. Last year, the second film was indefinitely shelved, but then Universal Pictures promised to make it. Fortunately, things are looking up even more, as the film's producers have made an excellent casting choice.

Best known for his roles in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Attack the Block, John Boyega will add another sci-fi fantasy flick to his impressive resume.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, he's been cast to play the film's lead character. While we don't know his name just yet, his character will be the son of Idris Elba's Stacker Pentecost.

Unfortunately, Guillermo Del Torro will not return to direct. Instead, with his blessing, the film will be directed by Steven S. DeKnight.

Stay tuned for more news on the Pacific Rim sequel as it becomes available.
