Following various sexual harassment allegations and much controversy, Jeffrey Tambor's Transparent character will be getting killed off. The news comes directly from show creator Jill Soloway, who revealed Tambor's Maura character will die in the show's two-hour musical finale.
Tambor was fired from Transparent in 2018, and Soloway confirmed the news about the character's death to the Los Angeles Times.
"We were all in mourning in many ways, and we all had to process together," Soloway said. "It was important [for the show] to go through all those stages. The show has always been a reflection of who we were, and we were mourning our own narrative."
Soloway added: "People say when they're making musicals that there are moments when the characters have to sing because they can't put something into words. I think it's the same thing with what our show went through, we felt like we needed a different way of looking at the family. And we did it through song."
As previously reported, Tambor — who also stars in Arrested Development — was fired by Amazon Studios last February in the wake of various sexual harassment allegations.
"The Transparent Musical Finale" will be released on Amazon Prime Video in September.
