What are you doing New Year's Eve? And the day after? And the day after that? If even the thought of anything other than hibernating after the sun sets at 4:30 p.m. is overwhelming, you're not alone — and CBC Gem has you covered for entertainment with a slate of brand new January streaming releases.
The homegrown hit comedies Son of a Critch and Run the Burbs will both return for their respective third seasons starting January 9, with the former being the semi-autobiographical coming-of-age tale of comedian Mark Critch and the latter following Andrew Phung's (Kim's Convenience) Vietnamese-South Asian onscreen family as they reinvent suburban Canadian living.
Two new CBC Original docuseries will arrive toward the end of the month, with horror actors exploring some of Ontario's most haunted haunts on Ghosting with Luke Hutchie and Matthew Finlan, and Amanda Parris showcasing urgent conversations on Blackness with For the Culture.
Starting New Year's Day, you can also stream the beloved Olivia Wilde buddy comedy (and the feminist answer to Superbad) Booksmart, starring Kaitlyn Dever and Jonah Hill's sister, Beanie Feldstein.
Check out the full list of new arrivals to CBC Gem below — and while you're at it, see what's new on Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+ and Paramount+.
