From the Sick and Twisted Mind of the Weeknd, Here's the First Trailer for 'The Idol'

This weekend, the Weeknd (ha) and HBO shared the first teaser trailer for The Idol, Abel Tesfaye's upcoming series that's being described as "the sleaziest love story in all of Hollywood."

Co-created with Euphoria's Sam Levinson, the show stars Lily Rose-Depp as an aspiring pop star who falls in love with a producer/self-help guru/cult leader played by Tesfaye. The series also features Troye Sivan, Blackpink's Jennie Kim, and Tunde Adebimpe

Red Rocket breakout star Suzanna Son was also set to appear, but she exited the show earlier this year along with director Amy Seimetz. Deadline reported that the two dropped from the project because the Weeknd felt the show was leaning too much toward a "female perspective." That, in addition to the presence of Sam Levinson, should put to rest any questions about whether or not this show will be a weird, horny ego-stroke.

It looks flashy though! The trailer features a lot of drugs, near-naked young bodies, cars and gyrating, and it's very much in the super-saturated and stylish vein of Euphoria and the Weeknd's whole visual world. Check it out below.
