Elijah Wood to Appear in 'Yellowjackets' Season 2

It's not cannibalism if someone's a hobbit, right?

The first season of Showtime's Yellowjackets proved it to to be a pulpy horror series chockfull of gore, '90s nostalgia and impeccable casting. Now, it's coming back for seconds — second breakfast, that is.

Elijah Wood has joined the cast of the show's second season to bring a little Middle-earth to New Jersey. The storied actor, who is obviously renowned for his portrayal of Frodo Baggins in The Lord of the Rings (among many other things), will have a season-long guest arc playing the role of Walter, who is described as a "dedicated Citizen Detective who will challenge Misty (Christina Ricci and Sammi Hanratty) in ways she won't see coming" [via Collider].

The announcement of Wood's appearance follows other newly revealed casting decisions for Season 2, including Six Feet Under's Laure Ambrose and Obi-Wan Kenobi's Simone Kessell coming on board to play the adult versions of Van and Lottie, respectively.

If you missed out on Season 1 (which you should remedy, especially if you're experiencing a void post-Stranger Things 4), Yellowjackets follows a Lord of the Flies and Lost-indebted premise, centred around the events that follow a high school soccer team's plane crashing in the remote wilderness. Told non-chronologically across two points in time, we see the group fight for survival as well as how the survivors' lives pan out 25 years later.

While an official release date has yet to be announced, showrunners Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson are reportedly eyeing an early 2023 premiere for the second season of Yellowjackets.

Next, Wood wants to make a film adaptation of Grand Theft Auto, which shockingly has not yet been a thing.
