Alia Shawkat and Michael Showalter Team Up for New Comedy Series

Alia Shawkat has stolen the show numerous times, not only as Maeby Fünke on Arrested Development but also in movies like Whip It and, most recently, as Ilana Glazer's doppelgänger on Broad City. She's long overdue for her own comedic starring role, and if all goes according to plan she'll get just that soon.

As The Hollywood Reporter explains, Shawkat has teamed up with The State and Stella alum Michael Showalter for a new series called Search Party.

The show was created by Showalter alongside Sarah-Violet Bliss and Charles Rogers, and follows a group of self-absorbed millennials who are forced to think outside of themselves when a college acquaintance mysteriously disappears. Bliss and Rogers will write and direct the series.

Along with Shawkat, the show will star John Early, John Reynolds and Meredith Hagner.

Search Party is being executive produced by Showalter, Lilly Burns and Tony Hernandez for Jax Media, the same company responsible for Broad City and Inside Amy Schumer.

The show does not yet have a home on any network, but it will begin shooting in New York this summer.

As previously reportedArrested Development is also set to return next year.
