Over the weekend, the world mourned after beloved Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek passed away following a lengthy battle with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Since the show is shot well in advance, however, there will still be new episodes hosted by Trebek until Christmas Day.
Trebek's last day in the studio was October 29, just 10 days before his death. According to Sony Pictures Television, he banked enough episodes to keep the show airing until December 25. The plan is to air his final episode on Christmas Day.
"Today we lost a legend and a beloved member of the Sony Pictures family," Sony Pictures Television said in a statement on Sunday (November 8). "For 37 amazing years, Alex Trebek was that comforting voice, that moment of escape and entertainment at the end of a long, hard day for millions of people around the world."
Sony has not yet announced a permanent replacement for Trebek following the Christmas episode.
