Schitt's Creek may be over, but the Dan Levy era is forever. According to Deadline, Hulu has ordered a presentation of Standing By — a new animated project from the beloved Canadian comedy series' co-creator, star and executive producer.
Standing By is co-written and executive-produced alongside writer-director Ally Pankiw (Levy's previous collaborator on Schitt's Creek Season 3 and recent director of the second season of Netflix's Feel Good). Levy will also voice one of the lead roles in the series.
The animated comedy is described as a satirical glimpse into the lives of a group of indignant guardian angels — bound for eternity, naturally. We'll get to see what they learn from both each other and the dysfunctional humans they're in charge of protecting.
Among these angels is the newly-deceased Carey, whom Levy will bring to life onscreen. He lived an isolated life in New York City and becomes the group's cynical spotter in the afterlife. Sounds a little bit like an early-seasons David Rose-type, doesn't it?
It all amounts to further evidence that David was created in Levy's own image — and a disgruntled, sardonic angel seems like a natural extension of his pocket. Here's hoping he'll be spreading his wings (while rolling his eyes) on over to Disney+ for his fellow Canadians soon!
Levy and his father also recently announced that they've written a book chronicling the creation of Schitt's Creek, entitled Best Wishes, Warmest Regards: The Story of Schitt's Creek.
