Following the news of beloved actor and comedian Bob Saget's passing last month, an official cause of death has been shared by the late entertainer's family.
Saget died after suffering a head injury. According to a statement made to TMZ, it's likely that he "accidentally hit the back of his head on something, thought nothing of it and went to sleep." Head trauma reportedly caused a brain bleed, with authorities having additionally concluded that drugs and alcohol were not involved in Saget's death.
UPDATE (2/10, 12:30 p.m. ET): The Orange County, FL, medical examiner told TMZ: "It is my opinion that the death of Mr. Saget was the result of blunt head trauma. His injuries were most likely incurred from an unwitnessed fall." The M.E. added that a toxicology analysis "did not reveal any illicit drugs or toxins," to conclude that "the manner of death is accident."
"In the weeks since Bob's passing, we have been overwhelmed with the incredible outpouring of love from Bob's fans, which has been a great comfort to us and for which we are eternally grateful," the family's statement read.
They added:
Now that we have the final conclusions from the authorities' investigation, we felt it only proper that the fans hear those conclusions directly from us. As we continue to mourn together, we ask everyone to remember the love and laughter that Bob brought to this world, and the lessons he taught us all: to be kind to everyone, to let the people you love know you love them, and to face difficult times with hugs and laughter.
As previously reported, the 65-year-old Full House star was found dead in his room at the Ritz-Carlton in Orlando, FL, on January 9. He's survived by wife Kelly Rizzo Saget and three daughters from a previous marriage.
Recently, America's Funniest Home Videos honoured its late host with a touching tribute.
