The Zolas Announce 'Ancient Mars' LP, Premiere New Track

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Aug 24, 2012

Earlier this year, Vancouver popsmiths the Zolas dropped a few details on their upcoming sophomore set, with singer-guitarist Zachary Gray telling Exclaim! that the new tunes "sound really '90s." The band will now get the chance to prove their claim when they issue the album, titled Ancient Mars, via Light Organ Records on October 2.

As previously reported, the group had written 11 songs before hitting the studio with producer Chuck Brody (Ted Leo, Wu-Tang Clan, Ra Ra Riot), but only ten of them made the final cut. A press release confirms that album track "Strange Girl" fits the '90s rock M.O., but also points to "Escape Artist" sounding as if "John Lennon and Kanye West met later tonight at a hotel bar."

You'll have to wait a couple of months to hear the album in full, but the Zolas have released a stream/download of the low-key and off-kilter piano-and-guitar jam "Knot in My Heart," which you can check out below.

Additionally, the Zolas have announced that they'll be supporting Ancient Mars with a fall tour with Hey Ocean! While Hey Ocean! announced their fall schedule last month, the specifics have yet to be delivered on which dates Zolas will play.
