Goth-pop chanteuse Zola Jesus has just announced her sixth album, Arkhon, due for release May 20 on Sacred Bones.
UPDATE (5/5, 11:15 a.m. ET): The album will now arrive June 24 on all formats.
Today, she also releases "Lost," the album's first single. The track is accompanied by an evocative and cinematic music video directed by Mu Tunç, which is appropriate for a track that also goes widescreen, with thick, deep synths and tribal drums leading to a haunted but consoling chorus of "Everyone I know is lost."
In a press release, the artist born Nika Roza Danilova said of the track: "It's true. Everyone I know is lost. Lost hope, lost future, lost present, lost planet. There is a collective disillusionment of our burning potential. As we stray further from nature, we drift from ourselves."
Arkhon finds the singer-songwriter working with both producer Randall Dunn and percussionist Matt Chamberlain for the first time. Dunn is primarily known for his work with experimental doom metal outfit Sunn O))), while Chamberlain's work as a session drummer is featured on albums by Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen and David Bowie.
Danilova's last record was 2017's Okovi.
