Zach Bryan Explains His Arrest After Getting "Too Lippy" with Police

"It was immature, and I just pray everyone knows that I don't think I'm above the law"

Country singer-songwriter Zach Bryan may have the No. 1 song and album in the US this week, but that hasn't stopped him from having a little run-in with the law. The musician was arrested in his home state of Oklahoma yesterday (September 7) when police in the town of Vinita charged him with obstruction of investigation.

Bryan issued a statement after the fact, apologizing and claiming that his emotions got the best of him. Now, he's uploaded a video breaking down what happened with the cops — although, spoiler alert, he provided no insight into how he managed to pull off taking such a good mug shot.

The TL;DR version of the story is that it certainly seems like the singer-songwriter was arrested for mouthing off to a police officer after being pulled over while driving across the country to see the Philadelphia Eagles (his team) play the New England Patriots. He's making the trip with his dog, Jack, and took a break from his travels to film himself detailing the events for his supporters.

It sounds like Bryan was initially pulled over for going a little over the speed limit, and ended up getting handcuffed because he didn't want to give out his home address. He eventually conceded and was able to go on his way.

Soon after, the musician and his security guard were both driving to Boston in separate vehicles. When Bryan's security guard was pulled over (potentially by the same cop who had cuffed the artist previously), he parked nearby to smoke a cigarette and see what was happening.

The officer ordered Bryan to get back into his car, which is when he claims he got "too lippy with him."

"I just didn't help my situation at all. I felt like a child. It was ridiculous. It was immature, and I just pray everyone knows that I don't think I'm above the law," the songwriter said. "I was just being disrespectful, and I shouldn't have been, and it was my mistake."

When Bryan was handcuffed for the second time, he complained about them hurting — to which the cop apparently replied, "They're not supposed to be comfortable."

Bryan recalled, "I'm like, 'Man, someone's gotta get ahold of you guys! Why are you using your authority like this? This is so wrong!' When in reality, they were just doing their jobs."

At one point, the officer said that he was going to tell Bryan something and told him not to interrupt. "I interrupted him, naturally, because I was just angry," the musician explained. "So he said, 'I'm gonna take you to jail,' and he took me to jail."

Bryan seemed quite apologetic about the whole thing, and it doesn't seem like the cop had much of a legal leg to stand on — and was very possibly kind of being a dick.

Bryan, whose homies famously hate Ticketmaster, recently returned to the ticketing platform to sell tickets to his 2024 Quittin Time tour — but rest assured, he's not happy about it.
