Tight pants dance punk troupe You Say Party! We Say Die! are prepping for the release of their third album, XXXX, due September 29 on Toronto's Paper Bag Records.
The Vancouver five-piece started recording the album in January with producer Howard Redekop (Tegan and Sara, the New Pornographers). It will be You Say Party!'s first release since last year's awkwardly titled remix affair, Remik's Cube, which featured acts such as Vitaminsforyou, Montag and Kevvy Mental, among others, tackling the band's songs.
And although YSP!WSD! received mixed reviews for their overly distorted set at the recent NXNE festival, they plan to hit the road in full force this fall, including their first live dates in the U.S. in several years. In 2006, after trying to cross the border without a Visa, YSP!WSD! bassist Stephen O'Shea was banned from playing in the U.S. until 2011. It's unclear whether they will wait it out until then or play without O'Shea for the American dates.
As some may recall, the band had some critical success with their first two albums, Hit the Floor! and Lose All Time, but got the most press mileage out of a tour-ending scuffle with punk rockers in Berlin in late 2007, when singer Becky Ninkovic was thrown out of the legendary Rock and Roll Herberge by two beefy Germans. Well, that and one time they were on our cover.
