Wu-Tang Clan Tap Cher for 'Once Upon a Time in Shaolin'

Yesterday (May 6), a journalist from Forbes magazine revealed a video featuring a snipped from the Wu-Tang Clan's forthcoming album, The Wu - Once Upon a Time in Shaolin. As it turns out, the clip featured some vocals from the one and only Cher.

Forbes' Zack O'Malley Greenburg travelled from New York to Morocco's Royal Mansour hotel, where Once Upon a Time in Shaolin's hand-carved box is being stored. There, he met with producer Tarik "Cilvaringz" Azzougarh, who played him a brief snippet of the record.

At the end of the clip (available at the 1:24 mark in the video below), a familiar voice croons, "Wu-Tang, baby. They rock the world." With a smirk on his face, Cilvaringz asks, "That voice sound familiar?" O'Malley responds, "Yeah, that sounds a little bit like Cher."

That's because it is, in fact, Cher. A representative for the long-running artist confirmed to Rolling Stone that Cher is on two of the album's tracks. "She recorded her parts separately, so I don't believe there was direct interaction," the rep said.

Cher's involvement was already sneakily revealed on the album's website, where she's credited as Bonnie Jo Mason. Cher used that name to release her first solo single in 1964.

It's unclear when the new Wu-Tang Clan album will drop, and it's even less clear when or how you'll be able to hear it. Limited to one physical copy, the current highest bid for the album rests at $5 million.
