We're used to filing R. Kelly in the R&B section, but the sultry crooner's latest material has reportedly found him working in an unexpected medium: country music.
"Yes, you read that right — country. I've really been writing a lot of country songs," Kells told Vibe. "I used to get criticized for doing a 'Bump & Grind' then turning around and doing a gospel song. But the truth is I'm glad I have a gift that allows me to switch lanes."
At this point, it's a little unclear whether R. Kelly plans to release these country tunes under his own name or give them to other artists.
The singer has been working on an album called Black Panties, and last year said, "It's really strictly written for the stripper club."
According to his latest quote to Vibe, "If you liked 12 Play, and if you liked TP-2 and Chocolate Factory, it's pretty much all three albums combined."
Stay tuned from more updates from R. Kelly. If we're lucky, we'll see him sporting a cowboy hat and clutching an acoustic guitar before long. Get a taste of what this might sound like in the form of the cover tune below.
