Hard Up

BY Stuart GreenPublished Nov 1, 2005

In a world filled with skinny garage pop Strokes wannabes, it’s somewhat refreshing to see a bunch of young keeners who, while sharing a similar aesthetic, have their inspiration more rooted in the glam of New York Dolls and swagger of the Kinks than the more contemporary knock-offs. This five-piece, Brooklyn-based band recalls the Velvet Underground in a more honest and raw way. Their guitars aren’t quite in tune, the production isn’t slick, but the songs are honest. The dual male/female vocals are a nice touch too.
