After announcing their original slate of headliners in April, the TD Winnipeg International Jazz Festival has announced a new crew of headlining artists for the fest's 2023 edition, including Rêve, who'll be performing with Preston Pablo at the Royal MTC John Hirsch Mainstage on June 15.
Joining Rêve in the headlining slot is trumpet phenom (and Beyoncé collaborator) Keyon Harrold, who'll be putting on his Jazz and the Birth of Hip Hop show with special guests MC Black Milk, Chris "Daddy" Dave, and Georgia Anne Muldrow on June 14. Winnipeg hip-hop heroes Super Duty Tough Work open that show — it's one you won't want to miss.
Jazz pianist Emmet Cohen and the Sun Ra Arkestra are also both set to play the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre Tom Hendry Warehouse on June 16 and June 20, respectively.
These newly-announced artists join previously-announced performances from Angélique Kidjo (with opener Kelly Bado) and Postmodern Jukebox, both taking place at the Burton Cummings Theatre on June 17 and 18, respectively.
The festival's 2023 edition is also the first to include new festival venue the Fort Garry Hotel, which will host the fest's new Spirit of '73 concert series, celebrating the most influential and acclaimed albums released 50 years ago with a crew of Winnipeg's favourite local musicians. Psych rockers Apollo Suns will play Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, and Carter Graham, Keisha Booker, and Sheena Rattai-led Vox Populi will play Stevie Wonder's Innervisions.
