These folks do an admirable job of straddling the black metal fence. On the one hand, there's enough single note, under-produced and atonal racket to keep the self-appointed black metal purists (Darkthrone equals true cult!) from crying into their flasks of ice-brewed ale. On the other, there are also a number of orchestrated touches and baroque keyboard noodling to perk the ears of black metal's progressive supporters. I predict fierce and heated debates, and maybe some fisticuffs, at the Elm Street Rock Cafe this coming Friday!
