Whitney Houston is the next late artist set to be transformed into a touring hologram, and she — or rather it — could soon be travelling the world in support of a new posthumous album.
Pat Houston — the singer's estate executor and sister-in-law — made the reveal in a New York Times piece, outlining potential plans for the touring hologram, as well as a Whitney Houston Broadway musical and an album of previously unreleased material.
Whitney Houston passed away in 2012, but unlike with certain other estates of dead singers, it has remained relatively quiet. That is set to now change, according to Pat Houston.
"Everything is about timing for me," she said. "It's been quite emotional for the past seven years. But now it's about being strategic."
This comes as part of a new deal with Primary Wave Music Publishing, whose founder Larry Mestel told the NYT that discussions are already underway about a Broadway musical, as well as a new album of previously unreleased track from Houston's 1985 self-titled debut album.
"Whitney was America's sweetheart," Mestel said. "And the idea now is to remind people that that is what her legacy is."
The Whitney Houston hologram is also already in development. The proposed tour would feature the Houston hologram backed by the late singer's original band and backup singers.
This also isn't the first time a Whitney hologram has been in development. Reports emerged in 2015 that a hologram tour would take place, but that tour never happened.
Then in 2016, a hologram of her was meant to appear on The Voice for a duet alongside Christina Aguilera, but ultimately, the idea to feature the hologram was scrapped.
