Weepin' Willie

At Last, On Time

BY David LewisPublished Sep 1, 2000

Vocalist Weepin' Willie Robinson is joined by Jimmy D. Lane, Mighty Sam McClain and Susan Tedeschi, who add extra energy to a session that showcases the splendid rapport of Willie's working band, which includes George PapaGeorge on organ and Chuck Langford on tenor sax. Their passionate soul-funk grooves animate this music, from slow torch ballads like "Fever" to the upbeat gospel "Glory Train." There is plenty of tasty music making here to confirm the joyful spirit at the heart of the blues tradition.
