Wavves' Nathan Williams Launches Spirit Club Side-Project, Shares Debut Release

Published Oct 07, 2014
In addition to heading up Wavves, weed-loving California songwriter Nathan Williams also makes up half of the beat-oriented duo Sweet Valley with his brother Joel (a.k.a. Kynan). Now, the Williams brothers have started another band, this time called Spirit Club.
This project is a trio, also featuring Andrew Caddick (who makes hazy, summery dream pop under the name Jeans Wilder). Williams announced the project with a few simple tweets, linking to a free download of a two-song single.

This single is labelled GR004 — referring to Williams' imprint Ghost Ramp — and it includes the tracks "Eye Dozer" and "Sling." These songs resemble a democratic synthesis of Wavves, Sweet Valley and Jeans Wilder's respective sounds, as bleary fuzz-rock anthems are blurred by warped electronic production.
That's the rather plain-looking cover artwork above. It's unclear if GR004 will be pressed in any sort of physical format, or if it will remain digital-only. For now, it's available for free right here.
Stay tuned for more from Spirit Club. The band have an Instagram account, but no photos have been posted as of yet.
