Radiohead side-project the Smile only just released their debut album, A Light for Attracting Attention, but they're already adding new songs to their catalogue. As Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood and drummer Tom Skinner go about touring in support of the LP, they have performed a new track called "Friend of a Friend."
They premiered the song in Zagreb, Croatia, earlier this week (May 16), with Yorke explaining that they "literally wrote it today." It's a syncopated number featuring Yorke singing over a meandering bassline before Greenwood and Skinner join in with rhythmically complex accompaniment.
It sinks into a moody groove at a couple points, but for the most part it's a little more twisting and jazzy than the Smile's very Radiohead-like album. Yorke called it a "skeleton" of a song, so it's possible that it will continue to evolve.
This isn't the Smile's only non-album material: they've been playing "Just Eyes and Mouth" at shows since before A Light for Attracting Attention came out, and they've also added Yorke's 2009 solo cut "Feeling Pulled Apart by Horses" to the set.
