Watch Steve Martin Absolutely Slaughter "Which of the Pickwick Triplets Did It?" on 'Only Murders in the Building'

It's a story pretty gory for a nursery rhyme

There was another murder this week on the crime caper Only Murders in the Building. The perpetrator was Steve Martin, and the victim was the fast-paced patter song "Which of the Pickwick Triplets Did It?" The actor absolutely slaughtered the tune with a truly killer performance.

Warning: this article contains mild spoilers about the third season of Only Murders in the Building.

All season, we've been teased with snippets of "Which of the Pickwick Triplets Did It?" — a fast-faced patter song for Charles Haden-Savage (Martin) to perform as the detective in the musical Death Razzle Dazzle. He's struggled with the song all season long, and there was even an episode in which Matthew Broderick (playing himself) took over the part.

Finally, on this week's episode — the eighth of the latest season, titled "Sitzprobe" — Martin performed the whole song, which turned out to be way more dynamic than previously revealed, with lots of lyrics and unique musical parts. It was a great payoff after hearing it teased all season, and it would be hard to overstate just how completely the 78-year-old Martin crushed it, leaving the Goosebury Theater stage a smoking pile of rubble by the time he's done.

Since the episode aired, Hulu has shared a full performance video for "Which of the Pickwick Triplets Did It?" without any of the visual edits that appeared in the episode, allowing viewers to watch it (mostly) spoiler-free. See it below.
