Currently touring in support of their latest album Near to the Wild Heart of Life, Japandroids stopped at Massey Hall in Toronto last night (October 24) and treated the Canadian audience to a Gord Downie tribute.

During their set, the Vancouver two-piece covered the Tragically Hip's "Nautical Disaster" from the Kingston band's seminal 1994 album Day for Night.

Japandroids put their trademark noisy spin on the track, nevertheless delivering a fine salute from one great Canadian band to another. Watch fan-shot footage of the cover down below.

Of course, Japandroids weren't the only ones expressing their grief and gratitude for Downie in Toronto last night; Choir! Choir! Choir! led a crowd at Nathan Phillips Square in a massive singalong yesterday evening.

As previously reported, Downie passed away last Tuesday (October 17) at the age of 53, following a highly publicized battle with brain cancer.
