Iggy Pop turns 76 today! The punk icon kicked off this latest rotation around the sun at L.A.'s Regent Theatre last night, taking the stage for the first show of his West Coast tour in support of this year's Every Loser

Pop recorded Every Loser with a big-names band that included Guns N' Roses' Duff McKagan and the Red Hot Chili Peppers' Chad Smith, and at last night's show, McKagan and Smith backed Pop for a cover of Lou Reed's 1972 classic "Walk on the Wild Side."

As Stereogum points out, a look at Setlist.fm and some empty-handed Google searches suggest that Pop has never covered "Walk on the Wild Side" before last night. He started his cover perched on a stool before giving in to his iconic and vaguely unnerving shirtless wiggle, and the crowd seemed stoked about the homage to Reed.

The cover itself is pretty faithful to the slinky, low-key energy of the original before building to a jazzy jam toward the end. McKagan, Smith and Pop were joined by Andrew Watt and the Kills' Jamie Hince, and the show's setlist included songs from Every Loser, plus a bunch of Pop's classics, including his stuff with the Stooges
