Vivian Girls

"He's Gone"

BY Josiah HughesPublished Dec 4, 2009

TRACK OF THE DAY: In the middle of their eternal touring, Vivian Girls recently recorded a new track with rising punk artist King Tuff behind the boards. The song, "He's Gone," is a cover of the girl-group classic, originally by the Chantels, from 1957.

Unsurprisingly, the song works well as a Vivian Girls number. The band's trademark harmonies and reverb-drenched everything give the track a haunting charm. If they're getting tired of the whole C86 pop revival, this cover suggests Vivian Girls would be wise to release a full album of girl-group covers.
