Vengeful

Vengeful are an eager young horde of musicians in the ever burgeoning hotbed of Quebecois deathcore, although they do flex their muscles in a number of ways that set them apart. Rooted in a slightly melodic death-infused technical approach, the group’s finest moments come when they ease up on the intensity and allow more dynamic elements to seep into the mix. The semi-frequent injections of Gorguts-inspired chord phrases and lengthier acoustic passages, which recall Opeth at their most moody and caustic, provide a welcome diversion from the style’s usual formula. Unfortunately, the recording is muddy and not all that representative of what Vengeful are capable of, but it would be fair to expect a top-notch follow-up in the near future.
