Veil of Maya have detailed their seventh studio LP. The Chicago metalcore crew will deliver new album [m]other on May 12 via Sumerian Records.
Following 2017's False Idol, the 10-song [m]other is previewed today with "Red Fur" — further teasing out the electronic elements hinted at within previous album tracks "Godhead" and "Synthwave Vegan." You can hear it below alongside a music video.
More than simply plugging into electronica like some of their heavy contemporaries, guitarist-songwriter Marc Okubo shares that inspiration struck while conducting some field research of his own.
"I got convinced to go to a RÜFÜS DU SOL concert," Okubo shares. "I was immediately inspired though. The next day, I was like, 'Let's combine some of this with our style.' That explains the electronic opening." Take his word for it, and get inspired by the Aussie trio's North American summer tour.
Now on his third LP with Veil of Maya since joining up for 2015's Matriarch, vocalist Lukas Magyar calls [m]other a "collection of personal experience, history and a touch of my own imagination."
"I enjoyed approaching each song in a different way this time around," the frontman explains. "It was certainly challenging at times to find the right mood but when the work was finally complete it seemed to come together very well. I'm thrilled to see how our fans respond!"
In April and May, Veil of Maya will support Avatar on a North American. While the run features no stops in Canada, you can find complete tour details here.
