This double disc features a muscular range of some of Australia’s finest bands over a 13-year stretch of time. Some of the key players in that country’s scene, such as Radio Birdman, the Birthday Party and the Saints and Scientists, are included on a number of fierce tracks. Other acts that largely flew beneath the radar, such as Teenage Radio Stars, Lime Spiders and the Triffids, are also prominently featured, offering many less frequently heard gems. The compilation draws from a diverse assortment of genres, veering from garage rock to electronic sounds and psychedelic pop. It also features impeccable liner notes that provide succinct, in-depth information on the dozens of artists included. Tales from the Australian Underground serves as a vital document of the artists that helped shape Australia’s underground sounds.
