New Beats From The Delta

BY Chris WodskouPublished Nov 1, 2000

Continuing in the current Fat Possum gangsta' tip, the album graphics of New Beats From the Delta suggest some kind of New Jack Delta, and the remixes of Junior Kimbrough, T-Model Ford (who may be the nastiest piece of business on the Fat Possum label) and Johnny Farmer do the same, albeit less compellingly than R.L. Burnside. This project doesn't exactly enlist A-list production or rapping talent; with the likes of Go Gittas Camp laying on pedestrian beats, lowest common denominator R&B grooves and lacklustre rhymes. The really criminal thing is that they actually record over the far better and more infectious grooves on the original tracks, especially Kimbrough's.
