Liberty City Invasion: Music from and Inspired by Grand Theft Auto IV

BY Omar MouallemPublished Aug 18, 2008

The whole purpose of videogame soundtracks is to enhance the experience, add to the ambience, but never distract from actually navigating the characters through the coin collecting, brick breaking, or car commandeering necessary to advance levels. And with that in mind, the soundtrack to Grand Theft Auto IV succeeds — when you’re actually playing. The soundtrack itself is a very forgettable collection of Green Lantern beats with every A-list rapper imaginable spitting B-grade game, like Fabulous, Fat Joe, Busta Rhymes, Wyclef and Jim Jones. However, "Nickname” by Qadir is a neat spin on gangsta rap; it’s probably the cleverest name dropping since Fitty’s "How to Rob.”
