Rapper Teon Gibbs and soulful singer IAMTHELIVING (a.k.a. Rian Peters) both hail from Vancouver, and now they're bringing their talents together for an uplifting summer single. Exclaim! has the premiere of their banging new tune "Between the Groove."
Gibbs originally hails from Botswana, while IAMTHELIVING has roots in London, UK. A press release notes that they now find inspiration in their new home base on the West Coast, and on "Between the Groove," that translates in a thumping soul-pop anthem full of synth bass, smooth electric piano and catchy melodies, with production by Cheap Limousine.
Peters explained the song with a statement:
We decided to join forces to create a track that would make people want to dance — get lost in the groove (no pun intended!) — and bring people together. We feel that "Between the Groove" is going to do exactly that. As individual artists, our sound is much different from this track and it's not typically what we're known for. We're fans of this sound and think it shows our versatility as artists. There needs to be more cross-genre collaborations in Vancouver; more black voices uniting and creating music together. To be real. We just need more positive energy to get us through these crazy times!
