Two Koreas

Main Plates & Classic Pies

BY Vish KhannaPublished Sep 1, 2005

Mining the sounds of art-punks like Television and the Modern Lovers, the Two Koreas make some infectious noise on their scrappy debut. Collected live off the floor, Main Plates possesses a raw, direct feel that infuses the songs with that much more spirit. With vocalist Stuart Berman at the helm, the Koreas come off like Guided By Voices fronted by Jonathan Richman, which fills songs like "My Postman (Ist Rad)” and "54 is the New 27” with playful menace. In the end, the Toronto band play the way whip-smart New York City bohemians are supposed to and the guitars sound fucking amazing.
