A Tribe Called Quest's debut album People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm is about to receive a deluxe 25th anniversary re-release, and it will feature a few remixes. Production wiz Pharrell Williams, for instance, is offering up a remodelled "Bonita Applebum," and you can check out a well-rounded, synth-smeared revamp before the rest of the collection hits stores next month.
The smooth jazz and sitar-sampling backdrop of the original has been stripped away from Pharrell's interpretation of the big butt-celebrating sex jam, but Q-Tip's iconic, rose petal-soft rapping style remains intact. Here, we hear the guy detailing his affection for the titular figure and his amassing of "crazy prophylactics" above a N.E.R.D.-geared swerve of '80s R&B keyboards.
Twenty-five years later, "Bonita Applebum" has still got it going on. You can pick up the re-release on November 25 via Legacy Recordings.
