There's something in the water out in L.A. ― from beatmakers to rappers, the hip-hop tide is turning from g-funk to mellow, my man. Trek Life is no exception to this pseudo-Golden Era revival, churning out thoughtful raps over warm Oddisee beats on sophomore album Everything Changed Nothing. One MC and one producer made the 12-track record, so it's honest, featuring a single, unified vision from top to bottom. Breezy, laidback lyrics inform opening track "Ready To Live" and continue throughout the album's latter half on "I'd Rather Be" and "Might Sound Crazy," with Trek's flow amping up on hometown anthem "So L.A." While the rapping on Everything Changed Nothing works ― it's smart and consistent ― Oddisee's charismatic production steals the spotlight.
