Tough Age

'Unclean' (EP stream)

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Jun 16, 2017

Tough Age gave us I Get the Feeling Central back in 2015, and now the Toronto punks are ready to follow it up with a new 7-inch EP titled Unclean.

The three-track offering shows off the latest sonic incarnation of the now three-piece unit, channelling their love for the lo-fi indie pop stylings of Flying Nun releases.

The under-a-minute opener "Guess Not" gets things off to a quick start, followed by the melodic garage pop of "Not That Bad." Before you know it, we're already at the titular closing track, which builds into an explosive surf rock ode to specific influences like the Clean and the Double Happys.

The band recorded and mixed the EP with Peter Woodford at the Bottle Garden in Montreal, while Jay Arner handled mastering duties. The album artwork (pictured above) was created by Ginette Lapalme.
