Fidgen, who was the singer/songwriter at the core of East Coast folk-pop band Sunfish, is a much better singer than songwriter. His husky voice is appealing and inviting, but very little about the songs warrant repeat listening. It’s a bit galling that he would choose to cover Spirit of the West’s “Political” — faithfully, no less — a song that has been beaten to death at thousands of amateur open stages from its native Vancouver to Sydney (Fidgen’s home town) for the past ten years.
