Tokyo Police Club's Dave Monks Announces Solo Album 'On a Wave'

Hear new song "Don't Go Falling to Pieces" now

After sharing new solo single "Bluebird" last month, Tokyo Police Club frontman Dave Monks has shared the details behind his debut album.

Titled On a Wave, Monks' first solo full-length arrives October 18 through Dine Alone. Eleven tracks in length, the album was recorded in Toronto and produced by Rob Schnapf (Elliot Smith, Kurt Vile, the Vines) and mastered by Mark Chalecki (Mavis Staples, Grandaddy, the Unicorns).

On a Wave came together following Monks' move home to Toronto from Brooklyn, its tracks said to be "an exercise in rediscovering those creative impulses that run through his previous works." Monks handles guitar and vocals across the record and is accompanied by Alyson McNamara on vocals, Matt Schuessler on bass and Luke Adams on drums.

In a statement, Monks said he "thinks this might be my favourite album I have been a part of but I definitely just made it one step, one flight, one song at a time. I didn't really know where I was going with it until it all came together. I'm really happy I stepped into the unknown and endured some moments of serious doubt and wanting to cut songs and redo them."

He added, "If you are making something now — remember that uncertainty and second guessing are just part of the process!"

Monks has shared second single "Don't Go Falling to Pieces" alongside the news, and you can hear the song below. He's set to tour Canada later this year alongside Said the Whale, with those dates bookending a trio of solo performances in the United States. You can find Monks' complete itinerary below.
