Nashville, TN metallic noise veterans Today is the Day have partnered with Southern Lord to release their tenth full-length, Animal Mother, the followup to 2011's Pain is a Warning. Having featured a revolving door of members over the years, mastermind and frontman Steve Austin is now joined by new recruits, bassist Sean Conkling (Regression, Burn Your Halo, Sprawl) and drummer Jeff Lohrber (Enabler, ex-Harlots), who together unleash the trio's latest collection of devastating and aggressive material.

The hour-long, 15-track album is tormenting and evocative, featuring crushingly heavy numbers that are chaotic and diverse. While reminiscent of the band's late-'90s works Temple of the Morning Star and In the Eyes of God, the new album includes gorgeous melodic elements, such as on "Bloodwood" and acoustic track "Outlaw (Acoustic)," adding more depth and dimension to Today is the Day's classic progressive sound. Animal Mother also features an incredible noise-fuelled cover of the Melvins' "Zodiac," which closes the record. Produced and mastered by Austin himself, and comprising themes of pain and hate, Animal Mother is another jarring and powerful offering in Today is the Day's unique and emotive catalogue.
