Steam

Despite it being their first full-length release, the comparisons TMBOY have received to the likes of Björk, Chairlift, Dirty Projectors, Phantogram and many more are entirely accurate.

The Brooklyn-based duo have a heavily hybridized style that leans deep into the electro-pop, indie and avant-garde space, mixing the melodic underpinnings of Sarah Aument with the energetic and emotional production of Will Shore. Tackling topics like queer identity and the many facets and shapes of love, Steam smacks with an energy and freshness — and a prominent queer voice — we've been waiting for.

Opening with the discordant rush of ocean waves, third single "Zephyr" quickly grounds the atmospheric and digs its heels in, Aument's heart-wrenching vocals juxtaposed with a growing electro soundscape and thickening percussion. Similarly, "Seed" pipes in with looped reverberating drums and a grime-y, dark synth expulsion, while Aument croons on about being in love with falling in love while navigating queer love for the first time. Make note, TMBOY are a band to watch.
