Times New Viking Prep New LP, Drop New Single

Having released their first album in 2005, Columbus, OH noisemakers Times New Viking were at the forefront of the recent lo-fi explosion. Now, the band are breaking away from their DIY roots, having teamed up with an engineer at a studio for their fifth album, due out sometime in 2011.

In a new post on their official website, the band revealed that they are currently selling "a hand made tour only seven inch containing the first glimpse of their upcoming 5th album to be released in 2011." It contains two tracks - "No Room 2 Live" and "Nite & Day" - and was recorded at Musicol Studios by Adam Smith.

If you sign up for Times New Viking's mailing list, you'll receive a free download of "No Room 2 Live." It's hardly a big-budget production, but the relatively clean recording is a far cry from the distortion-soaked murk of their past work. Presumably, the result of the album will be of similar fidelity.

The band recently wrapped up a tour with the reformed Guided by Voices and later this month will play at CMJ.

Tour dates:

10/19 New York, NY - Irving Plaza (CMJ)
